Überhaupt spielen in Rochats Arrangements der Cellowerke die tiefen Lagen seines Instruments naturgemäß eine wesentliche Rolle (da sie ja den mittleren Lagen des Cellos entsprechen), sodass die Musik vor einer ganz hinreißenden vollen, satten, sonoren Klanglichkeit geprägt wird. All dies bringt Rochats üppiges, Rachmaninows große Melodiebögen intensiv nachvollziehendes und auskostendes, auch gelegentliche Portamenti mit einbeziehendes Spiel vorzüglich zur Geltung, glutvolle, romantische, von melancholischem Schwelgen erfüllte Interpretationen.

About New Album
Während des ersten Lockdowns hat der Bratscher Mathis Rochat die Musik Rachmaninoffs für sich neu entdeckt. Er war von den Werken des russischen Spätromantikers so angetan, dass er sich dafür entschied, ein komplettes Programm mit eigenen Arrangements für Bratsche und Klavier zusammenzustellen. Ziel war es, den russisch beseelten Melodien durch die Instrumentenwahl ganz neue Farben zu verleihen.

During the first lockdown, violist Mathis Rochat rediscovered the music of Rachmaninoff for himself. He was so taken with the works of the Russian late romantic that he decided to put together a complete programme with his own arrangements for viola and piano. The aim was to give the Russian-inspired melodies completely new colours through the choice of instruments.
