Bach-Motetten mit Solomon’s Knot
Motetten von Johann Sebastian Bach und seinem Cousin Johann Christoph Bach. Interpretiert vom Ensemble Solomons› Knot.
Die vorliegende Aufnahme enthält sämtliche Motetten von Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), die im Kontext der Musik der vorangegangenen Generation seiner Familie stehen, die ihn inspirierte. In seinem letzten Lebensjahrzehnt hat Johann Sebastian Bach Motetten seines Cousins väterlicherseits, Johann Christoph (1642-1703), erforscht und aufgeführt, den er sehr bewunderte. Obwohl Johann Sebastian die Motettengattung (und vermutlich auch seine Sänger) bis an die Grenzen des Möglichen führte, kann man auch den starken Einfluss der Familientradition hören.
Dies ist das erste einer Reihe von ortsspezifischen Solomon’s Knot-Aufnahmeprojekten. Als Aufnahmeort für die Werke wurde die inspirierende Bachkirche in Arnstadt ausgewählt, nicht nur wegen ihrer wunderbaren Akustik, sondern auch als ein Ort, der die beiden Bachs verbindet: Johann Christoph wurde in Arnstadt geboren, und Johann Sebastians erste Anstellung als Organist war in der nach ihm benannten Kirche.

This recording features the complete motets by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), set in the context of music from the previous generation of his family which inspired him. In his final decade, JS Bach researched and performed motets by his father’s cousin, Johann Christoph (1642-1703), whom he greatly admired. Although Johann Sebastian took the motet genre (and presumably his singers) to the limits of possibility, one can also hear the strong influence of the family tradition.
This is the first of a series of location-specific Solomon’s Knot recording projects. Arnstadt’s inspirational Bachkirche has ben chosen as recording location for these works, not only for its wonderful acoustic, but also as a place which connects the two Bachs: Johann Christoph was born in Arnstadt, and Johann Sebastian’s first job as an organist was at the church, which came to be named after him.
