Zurück aus dem Aufnahmestudio: der Schweizer Pianist Benjamin Engeli hat romantische Klaviermusik von drei bedeutenden Komponistinnen aufgenommen.

Die Klaviermusik von Amy Beach, Agathe Backer Grøhndahl und Rebecca Clarke zeichnet sich durch spätromantische Ausdruckskraft, harmonische Raffinesse und eine oft liedhafte Melodik aus. Alle drei Komponistinnen integrieren Elemente ihrer kulturellen Herkunft – Beach etwa nordamerikanische Einflüsse, Grøhndahl norwegische Volksmusik und Clarke impressionistische sowie spezifisch englische Klangfarben. Gemeinsam ist ihnen ein virtuoser, klanglich differenzierter Klaviersatz, der emotionale Tiefe mit technischer Brillanz verbindet. Besonders ist auch, dass sie als Frauen ihrer Zeit mit beeindruckender Eigenständigkeit und Innovationskraft in einer männlich dominierten Musikwelt auftraten.

Back from the recording studio: Swiss pianist Benjamin Engeli has recorded romantic piano music by three important female composers.

The piano music of Amy Beach, Agathe Backer Grøhndahl and Rebecca Clarke is characterised by late Romantic expressiveness, harmonic sophistication and often song-like melodies. All three composers integrate elements of their cultural backgrounds – Beach, for example, North American influences, Grøhndahl Norwegian folk music and Clarke impressionistic and specifically English tonal colours. What they have in common is a virtuoso, tonally differentiated piano writing that combines emotional depth with technical brilliance. What is also special is that, as women of their time, they performed with impressive independence and innovation in a male-dominated musical world.
