Alexandra Sostmann: Aus der Stille – From Silence

Die Pianistin Alexandra Sostmann ist nicht nur für ihr ausgefeiltes Bach-Spiel bekannt,sondern ebenso für ihre Entwicklungen und Querverbindungen in der Musikgeschichtenachspürenden Konzert- und CD-Programme. In ihrer jüngsten CD-Einspielung bleibt sie dieser Linie treu, wenn sie den Bogen vom Barock bis zur Gegenwart spannt, von Bach bis zu Toshio Hosokawa.

Dabei versucht sie die in so gut wie jeder Kultur anzutreffende Auffassung von Musik als Medium zwischen Immanenz und Transzendenz zu erhellen. Es sind vor allem die sich in der Musik spiegelnden Wandlungen und Übergänge, die die Pianistin faszinieren. Aber auch die Stille spielt dabei eine wichtige Rolle – als integraler Bestandteil von Musik wie als Chiffre für das, was nicht mit Worten gesagt werden kann.

The pianist Alexandra Sostmann is not only known for her polished Bach playing, but also for her developments and cross-connections in concert and CD programmes that trace the history of music. In her latest CD recording, she remains true to this line when she spans from the Baroque to the present day, from Bach to Toshio Hosokawa.

In doing so, she endeavours to shed light on the concept of music as a medium between immanence and transcendence that can be found in almost every culture. It is above all the transformations and transitions reflected in music that fascinate the pianist. But silence also plays an important role – as an integral part of music and as a cipher for what cannot be said with words.
